Major Difference Between Interferon Beta & Gamma

Interferon beta is a human cytokine protein encoded by the IFNB1 gene. It belongs to the interferon type I family that regulates the immune system in humans. They are present in all mammals. Interferon beta has anticancer, antibacterial, and antiviral properties responsible for innate immune responses. In response to antiviral activity, fibroblasts—the most common cell types of connective tissues—produce large quantities of IFN B proteins. There are two subtypes of IFN B proteins: IFNB1 and IFNB3. These proteins bind to the IFN-α/β receptor, a cell surface receptor complex comprising two chains, IFNAR1 and IFNAR2. MIF protein is an inflammatory cytokine that orchestrates an acute immune response by binding to CD74 receptors on other cells of the immune system upon bacterial invasion.

Macrophage Migration Inhibitory Factor (MIF) is a multifunctional protein. MIF is secreted by the immune cells and released into circulation following bacterial invasion. These MIF proteins bind to the CD74 receptors on other cells of the immune system and orchestrate an acute immune response. MIF is a proinflammatory protein that has been implicated in rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, neurodegenerative disorders and certain types of cancer.

Interferon gamma (IFNγ) or is a human dimerized soluble protein encoded by the IFNG gene. The biologically active IFNγ is an interlocking anti-parallel form of two monomers. It binds to the IFN-γ receptor complex to elicit a cellular signal.Interferon gamma (IFN-gamma) is a cytokine, a type of messenger protein that plays a large part in immunity. It’s also called immunoglobulin, meaning it helps the body to fight infection. Interferon gamma is one of thousands of antibodies the body produces when it’s compromised by infection, and it functions in the innate system and adaptive systems of the immune response.Interferon gamma (INF-gamma) is a protein that plays an important role in the immune system. It is also called immune interferon (IFN). Production of IFN-gamma by T cells is one of the hallmarks of a cell-mediated or T-cell-dependent immune response. It can be detected in the blood at high levels in people who have autoimmune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) originally approved the medicine in 1991 to treat people with chronic granulomatous disease. Interferon-gamma belongs to a class of drugs called interleukin inhibitors. It’s an immune system stimulant that helps your body fight off infections.
